New in the Works

These are just the first of a few new pieces I've been working on over the last week. I think I'll update the webshop early next week-either Monday or Tuesday... I'll be sure to post the details here!

THREE EASTER RABBITS

It's finally warming up, and frankly It's hard to trust it, I know. I never thought it was going to happen again given our winter, but it seems like I might just be able to leave the house without 15 layers in the near future. Fingers crossed I'm right...so let's celebrate. We all deserve it after the winter we've endured.

SPRING IS ON IT'S WAY! and with it comes Easter Baskets, green grass, tulips. I'm working on a few one of a kind and limited edition rabbits and bears for the shop which I hope to post before too long, but for now let's talk Rabbits.

LINEN RABBITS made by JENNIFER:
The POLKA DOT CLUB Cuddling Rabbit and Rolypoly Rabbit are new in the studio and frankly I'm so smitten with them. My daughter sleeps with her Cuddling Rabbit every night and each time it comes out of the washer and dryer it just looks better- more loved- more right. The Rolypoly rabbit is brand new and is just right for rolling or plunking into a basket surrounded by chocolate eggs.

ERNEST THE RABBIT PATTERN:
As always I'm excited to have people try working with mohair themselves. It's challenging but rewarding as no other material is quite the same. My Ernest the Rabbit pattern is fit for all skill levels and the instructions are altogether complete. In the 3 years I've been sharing my patterns I've offered help to everyone- and not had one question. I knew they were thorough but really?! Get Sewing Everyone. Easter is just around the bend.

about the mess...

This morning was a battle, not because everyone was crazy or especially difficult, but because I was overwhelmed by the messes my children had made ALL OVER THE HOUSE (sorry for shouting just then).

Don’t get my wrong, I do not live in one of those spotless houses that is spare, white, or nearly vacant. I live is a big, cozy, pattern filled place that serves every member of our family- quite often it’s a mess because of it. We all have projects, and games, and books, and papers, and well- messes everywhere but today it got the better of me from the get go. I asked, I asked again, I shouted, and then I looked around again. Yeah, it’s a mess, but everyone was engaged in some kind of imaginative game or fun. There was evidence everywhere. Now, what’s so bad about that? I asked myself.

I make a lot of toys for my kids so I’m complicit in all of this. Yeah, sometimes they add to the mess, but they often create play and open up some sort of imaginative interaction that is created by my children alone. They’re tossed, kicked, or danced with. Other times they quiet comfort.
So this morning I gave in. The battle is over for now. I’m sure it will be waged again and again- Me against the Mess. But for now I’m just going with it. I’ll make another coffee, and watch them play- Go forth little ones, make a mess…. but hey, could you pick that up before you’re start a new project. … please. I’ll help! Who can pick up the most blocks first?!

Wish me luck

new work- after a long break

It's been nice to work on these few pieces again... I hope to make more in the new year. I'm still in the studio for at least a few hours every day, but the POLKA DOT CLUB has been taking up so much of my time. I love working on toys for kids, but it's nice to quietly sit and make something more sculptural now and again too. The practice of making these bears will forever be a joyful one. I'm lucky to have it to return to. Thank you all for your continued support of my work! and HAPPIEST HOLIDAY WISHES.
