Thank you Grandma

Taking after Miss Dolores.

I think my fascination for sewing was ignited by my Grandmother and by the honorable place her beautiful quilts held in our family. Each Christmas she would gift one of her hand-quilted compositions to one lucky person. They were meticulously made, and thoughtfully reflected the recipients personality. She was a thrifty woman, and would use every scrap. I love the economy of quilt making and while fabric prices have gotten quite expensive (or maybe it's just my love for imported and designer fabrics haha!) I try to employ that frugality while designing my own quilts. I began my first quilt three years ago, and I've (started many and) finished a few now. My Grandmother passed away well before I started quilting, but she passed the bug to me... and I'm carrying on the tradition of gifting a quilt each Christmas. Here are a few I've made and a few still in progress.
the quilt I love to much on my wall to finish for my bed...

  2. Beautiful work Jennifer!!! Yes, Quilting is a joy and yes fabric has gotten quite expensive. I just love Moda prints... especially the three sister's fabrics. They are so yummy... each piece I squirrel away like it's gold. I hope to make a queen sized quilt for myself with them... someday. Again beautiful work... they are all gorgeous. :)

  3. Your quilts are very inspiring but I am terrible for starting projects and not always finishing them, so a whole quilt feels very challenging. Many moons ago, I started some panels for a crazy quilt, and now they are sitting in a box...waiting.....:)

  4. Your quilts are wonderful. I would like to make a crib quilt and really like the polka dot one you have started. Is that a pattern I can find or did you design that one on your own.?

  6. The baby quilt is fabulous. The others are, too. I just love the idea of creating something for someone you're creating!

It's been fun as a pregnant artist to make paintings for my future daughter's room.

    Thanks for sharing!

  8. Your quilts are gorgeous and very inspiring. I am a beginning quilter just finishing up a twin-sized pinwheel quilt that I started making just after my son was born. He's almost two years old now, and the quilt will hopefully be finished in time for when he transitions to his first real bed...so I still have a little time to finish. I would love to see pictures of some of your Grandmother's quilts.
